He was born in 1973 in Novi Sad. He graduated natural sciences at Jovan Jovanović Zmaj Grammar School in 1992. He continued his studies at the Faculty of General Medicine of the University in Novi Sad, where he obtained his medical degree in 1999. He joined the Neurosurgery Clinic of the Vojvodina Clinical Centre in 2002. He specialised in neurosurgery from 2004 to 2010. He completed his postgraduate doctoral studies in 2013 at the Doctoral School of the Faculty of General Medicine of the University in Novi Sad. He has been working at the Department of Surgery of the Faculty of General Medicine of the University in Novi Sad from 2011 to 2017 as an assistant professor and from 2017 as an associate professor.
He was secretary of the Department of Neurosurgery of the Serbian Medical Association from 2011 to 2019. He is the secretary of the Serbian Society of Neurosurgery since 2016. He has been a member of the organising committees of several neurosurgical congresses.
His main clinical specialties are spinal surgery, neurotraumatology, cerebrovascular surgery and neurooncology.
He has been an invited speaker at several domestic and international congresses. He is the author and co-author of about 75 international and domestic publications. He has participated in two international scientific studies.
He took part in several study tours, the most significant of which were:
- A one-month study tour at the Neurosurgery Clinic in Vienna in 2014 with the help of a scholarship from the American-Austrian Foundation.
- A one-month study tour at the Department of Neurosurgery of the National Institute of Neuroscience in Budapest in 2015 with the help of the Domus Hungarica Senior Scholarship of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
Dr Gyula Gyülvészi, associate professor, has been the director of the Department of Neurosurgery of the Vojvodina Clinical Centre since October 2018.
