The Society of Hungarian physicians and dentists of Vojvodina is established for an indefinite time, independent of political parties, a non-governmental, non-profit association with the basic goal of achieving the highest level of medical and dental training among Vojvodina Hungarians, the realisation of medical and dental health care of Vojvodina Hungarians, and the highest quality in health insurance, so that Serbian and Hungarian citizens, as well as the citizens of the European Union, can receive the best possible health care in Serbia.
Our short story
How we began:
Sometime at the end of September 2019, I sent an e-mail with the following content to 40 e-mail addresses:
“Dear ladies and gentlemen,
Dear colleagues,
Dear friends,
It would be appropriate for me to begin this letter with an introduction. I am Dr Boján Bagi, Chief Physician of the Anaesthesiology Department of the Public Hospital in Subotica. There has already been formulated in me, and I think not only in me, but also in others, the idea that Hungarian doctors in Vojvodina need an organisation of their own, where we can discuss in our mother tongue the many dilemmas that medicine holds.
We have finally found ourselves in a situation where this can happen. I contacted some colleagues (Prof. Dr Gyula Gyülvészi – from Novi Sad, Dr Arnold Apró – from Senta, Dr Emese Úri – from Sombor and Dr Dóra Kálóczi – from Bačka Topola) who selflessly helped me to collect your e-mail addresses.
At a time when emigration has become common, when the size of our community is declining, we who have stayed at home in our homeland and serve people through our daily work, taking care of their health and healing those in need, often snuggling up with everyday tasks, forget to look around, forget our dear colleagues, who do not infrequently struggle with similar problems as we do. We can’t afford not to know each other, not to help each other, not to interfere in everyday things, not to stand up for each other, to let our dear colleagues bleed on the battlefield.
No! I believe that we deserve more, we can do more, we want and will do more.
I would like to ask all Hungarian doctors in Vojvodina to join this professional movement, please read the proposal for the statute and answer me by 15th October. If anything has been left out of the goals, please write it down.
I suggest our name to be the Society of Hungarian physicians and dentists of Vojvodina. In the second half of October, I would announce the date and place of the inaugural meeting.
Dr Boján Bagi, anaesthesiologist”
As I received more supportive and encouraging e-mails than I had sent my first e-mail to, we finally scheduled the inaugural meeting for 9th November 2019. The building of the Szekeres László Foundation and the VM4K also became our seat. As an older brother, with great care and attention, the staff of the Szekeres László Foundation and VM4K helped us to organise the inaugural meeting.
On 9th November 2019 beginning at 11 a.m.
After singing our national prayer, which encourages, strengthens, exhorts, teaches fidelity, and cultivates active patriotism, we have chosen the working presidency: Dr Györgyi Goretić Vámoser (Sombor) – chairman, Dr Katalin Kovács Kiss (Senta) – member and Dr Zsaklina Halász (Subotica) – member. Following the welcoming words of the chairman of the working presidency, the audience was greeted by Dr Bálint Pásztor, President of the Parliamentary Group of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians.
Following the adoption of the agenda, the statute of the Society was adopted unanimously, and the members of the Presidency were elected: Doc. Dr Gyula Gyülvészi (Novi Sad), Dr Arnold Apró (Senta), Dr Dóra Kálóczi (Bačka Topola), Dr Emese Úri (Sombor), Dr Illés Matijevics (Subotica), Dr Éva Király (Novi Sad) and Dr Boján Bagi (Subotica). The Presidency withdrew and elected Dr Boján Bagi for the President, as well as Dr Emese Úri and Dr Illés Matijevics for the Vice-Presidents of the Society.
After the inaugural meeting Doc. Dr Gyula Gyülvészi, Dr Boján Bagi, Dr Arnold Apró and Dr Emese Úri gave professional lectures to the gathered.
